I'm not posting a full birth story or pictures and the like, as my family and I are still visiting with our newfound love, but....Lillian Taylor Heller, 8 1/2 pounds on the dot, I haven't measured her yet. Born about 3 hours ago at 11:30. :) Immediately after birth, I placed her on my stomach, as I was unsure if my cord reached and couldn't really tell from the angle I had finally collapsed in, she crawled to the breast all by herself and latched on all by herself on her first try. I'm so proud! I felt bad that I didn't slop her on right away, but I didn't think the cord was quite long enough... she proved me wrong!Just a quick note to say labor went really well and really quickly and I held together most of the time, only partly losing all my friggin marbles in transition. (I do believe I was screaming at the top of my lungs for vodka... whoops) I've got a small piece of retained placenta (I think) that I'm still waiting to pass... it's odd and it feels like I have a flat, flaccid penis. :P (I just gave birth, I'm allowed to voice my odd thoughts, right?)I'll post more once I have a few moments.
Oh, that is so awesome that she crawled like that and was able to figure out how to latch on right away! (I'm jealous.) I do believe I was screaming at the top of my lungs for vodka... whoopsThat is the best thing that I've read today... lmao, I wish I had thought to yell that during transition. Did you have an unassisted childbirth or was there a midwife there? I can't wait to read your story, although I suspect it's going to make me wish even more that I had had Alice at home.
Oh, yours is the second Lillian born this week! Have you heard the Smashing Pumpkins song "Lily (My One and Only)"? I would totally sing it to my baby if she were named Lillian... so far Alice has had to settle for "White Rabbit" and "Alice's Restaurant" (while nursing).
I love Smashing Pumpkins. I've heard (and pretty much memorized) all of their songs up to MCIS and it's various singles. After that I lost my hearing and dropped out of the whole music scene for several years. And yes, I sing Lily to her all the time. My husband looks at me like I'm crazy. "Why are you singing a stalker song to my daughter?" And I totally forgot to post my birth story here. Doh. I guess I'll do that now. 2 weeks late is better than never, no?Edited at 2007-11-13 04:15 am (UTC)
